The best job boards, compared: where to actually find jobs
July 18, 2026 · 6 min read
There is no single “best” job board — there’s the best board for your field, your seniority, and how you want to work. Searching all of them one at a time is a waste of an afternoon. Here’s how the major boards differ and how to cover them efficiently.
General boards: the widest nets
Start here for sheer volume across almost every industry and level.
- Indeed — the largest aggregator by raw volume; a good baseline for nearly any role.
- LinkedIn — strong for professional and corporate roles, plus the networking and referrals that often matter more than the application itself.
- Glassdoor — general listings with salary and company-review context, useful for mid-to-senior corporate roles.
- ZipRecruiter, Monster, CareerBuilder, SimplyHired — broad aggregators with good coverage of small-to-mid-business, admin, sales, and retail roles.
- Google Jobs — not a board itself but an aggregator that surfaces postings from across the web; a fast catch-all.
Niche boards: higher signal for your field
Specialist boards have fewer listings but a far higher hit rate if you’re in the right field.
- Dice — technology, IT, and engineering roles, contract and full-time.
- Built In — tech and startup roles concentrated in major hubs (and remote).
- Wellfound (formerly AngelList) — startup and early-stage roles, often with equity.
Remote-first boards
If you want fully remote work, don’t rely on a “remote” filter on a general board — go where remote is the default. We Work Remotely lists fully-remote roles across tech, design, marketing, and support, and most general boards do offer a remote toggle worth using.
How to search efficiently
The trick is to stop searching board by board. Decide on your target titles and location once, then fan the same search out across every relevant board in a couple of clicks. Keeping your search terms consistent also makes it easy to compare where the good listings actually are for your profile.
Search all twelve at once
Job Umbrella’s Find Jobs page takes your target titles and location and builds prefilled searches across twelve major boards — the ones above — plus federal and state government sites, so you launch them all from one screen. It can also recommend which boards best fit your profile, and when you find a match, the browser extension captures it straight into your tracker — where you can tailor a resume and cover letter to it.
